TREKKIEGUY'S REVIEW

This is definitely my favorite Star Trek novel!

They provide too much information on the back of the book,
but it's such a great story that it really doesn't matter.

The characters are very well written (see exception below) and some
very interesting characters are introduced. The scene where Kirk is killed
is wonderfully written and provides a gut wrenching moment even though
you know it's coming.

If I had to say anything negative about this story it would involve Scotty.
To put it simply, his character is written wrong. He spends 90% of the
story wandering around the Enterprise wildly complaining that he's kept
in the dark about things that happen on the ship. When did this ever
happen on the TV series? Scotty is one of the highest ranking officers
on the ship. I understand that most of the time he's down in engineering
but Kirk never excluded him from what was going on.

Scotty is kept completely in the dark in this story . . . but . . . it does
create the best foreshadowing scene in any Trek novel.

A top-notch novel none-the-less, and it remains my all-time favorite.
even after all these years!

(It would have made a wonderful movie!)
